UnitedHealthcare offers members free year of Apple Fitness+

Health insurance provider UnitedHealthcare on Thursday announced a new initiative that will provide fully insured members with a 12-month subscription to Apple Fitness+ at no extra cost.

UnitedHealthcare subscribers in all 50 states will have access to Apple Fitness+ with a one year free subscription, the company announced in a press release.

Employers with self-funded plans can also purchase an Apple Fitness Bundle, which includes a 12-month Apple Fitness+ subscription as well as a $25 Apple Gift Card. It is anticipated that the bundle will be available by next year.

UnitedHealthcare chief consumer officer Rebecca Madsen stated that the Apple Fitness+ program was part of an overall effort to help people “engage in their well being and get and keep healthier”. Madsen explained that the initiative offers access to Apple’s new fitness products for the first time.

Jay Blahnik (Apple’s senior director for Fitness Technologies), stated that “We are thrilled to partner with UnitedHealthcare and bring this offer to Apple Fitness+ to millions who are looking to be more motivated to lead a healthier life.” Fitness+ offers many options to help you stay active, no matter your stage in your fitness journey.

UnitedHealthcare introduced Apple Watch to its insurance plan in March 2018. It also launched the Motion program. This allows users to get $1,000 off their annual insurance premiums for achieving certain fitness goals. Later that year, the company added an option for users to get an Apple Watch Series 3 free of charge.

UnitedHealthcare has announced that a new motion feature will allow enrollees earn incentives towards an Apple Fitness+ subscription.

Apple Fitness+ was introduced in 2020. It combines Apple Watch sensor data with guided exercise videos to create a complete workout experience. Apple has announced that it will offer the service in 15 more countries as of the end 2021.
